What equipment do I need for vaulting?
The classical riding clothes known from the English riding style are not appropriate for vaulting. The acrobatic exercises demand a lot from the clothing, a maximum freedom of movement is required and the figures must be visually shown off as well as possible. We give you an overview of the equipment for vaulters.
The usual clothing for training consists of:
- Vaulting leggings
- Tight-fitting functional shirt
- Vaulting shoes
- For warming up: training jacket or jogging trousers
It is important that the vaulting clothing is elastic and fits snug, on the one hand so that the movements can be performed without restriction, and on the other hand so that the figures can be presented well and can be clearly recognised by the judges in the event of a competition. For this reason, colourful full-body suits are worn at competitions, which fit the body like a second skin. The quality of the vaulting shoes is just as important. They must be light and flexible. The sole should provide a good grip as well as comfortable without hurting the horse’s sensitive back.
