Stable boots guide
What makes a good stable boot? If you were to ask riders about this, you would get a different answer from each individual. Since the routines and activities in the stable are individual for each rider, the requirements for the footwear also differ greatly. Basically, however, it can be said that stable boots should be robust enough for stable work and at the same time allow for riding in the saddle. Stable boots are also often used for other leisure activities, such as walking the dog or long walks in the forest.
What should you look for when buying stable boots?
- Waterproof: You can prevent wet feet by choosing waterproof or at least water-repellent models. Some materials, such as leather, are already water-repellent by nature. With an additional impregnation, this effect can even be enhanced. Stable boots made of synthetic materials such as rubber or polyurethane (PU) are also suitable for use in all weathers. Nevertheless, regular shoe care and re-impregnation should not be neglected. You can read more about this under point 3. How do you care for a riding boot properly?
- Protection: When working in the stable, but also when handling the horse, minor accidents can easily occur. It is therefore essential to wear sturdy footwear. The most important prerequisite is already given with a stable boot – the ankle should definitely be covered and stabilised by the shaft. The non-slip treaded sole also gives the wearer more grip and prevents dangerous slipping on slippery surfaces.
- Suitable for riding: If you also want to use the stable boot for horseback riding, you must pay attention to the presence of a heel, which should prevent slipping in the stirrup. Although a sturdy stable boot does not offer the same flexibility as a classic leather riding boot, the boot should offer enough freedom of movement for giving aids. If the boot is too coarse and wide, both sensitivity and comfort in the stirrup can no longer be guaranteed.
- Comfort feeling: Practical details can support the wearing comfort. Rubber inserts, hook-and-loop fasteners or a generous shaft facilitate entry. In winter, a lined winter stable boot ensures comfortably warm feet.
