How often should I care for my shoes?
Shoes and boots for equestrian sports are exposed to a high degree of stress. On the one hand, because the frequency of movement – whether riding or working in the stable – is very high and, on the other hand, because the footwear is permanently exposed to dirt and dust in the stable environment. Basically, the functional properties of the upper materials are limited by dirt. The dust and dirt particles clog the pores and membranes of the material and thus, above all, impair the breathability, that many shoes have to provide to prevent perspiration from forming inside the shoe. As robust and durable as it is, leather is clearly one of those materials that will not forgive lack of care in the long run. Leather riding boots should be intensively cleaned and treated with care products at least every 14 days. Apart from that, shoes should also be cared for in between if they have been exposed to extreme weather conditions or if they are heavily soiled.
