Riding hat accessories: What makes sense?
As a rule, there is little need for accessories around riding hats. However, there are some aspects that can be taken into account with the help of suitable equipment:
- Care
- Weather suitability
- Visibility
Riding hats care
The care routine for a riding hats is uncomplicated. Nowadays, the outer shell of riding hats is often made of hard plastic, which can be cleaned of dust and dirt with a damp cloth. Even helmets with the classic velvet look are now almost always made of washable microfibre, which is considered extremely easy to clean.
The inner lining is also removable and washable in most cases. If this is not possible or not an option for reasons of convenience, you can also use special foam cleaners that reliably remove unpleasant odours and bacteria.
To protect your riding hat from dirt and dust when it is not in use, you should store it in a riding hat bag. A bag that is padded on the inside will also protect it from light knocks during transport.
Weather suitability
A rider knows no bad weather – with suitable accessories you can upgrade your riding hats for any weather. Especially in winter, many riders complain about cold ears and also the head, which can quickly start to sweat under the riding hat, can be exposed to a slight wind chill effect through the ventilation holes. With an additional heat pad in the form of a helmet cap, you can effectively protect the sensitive head area from cooling down. An insider tip among riders are ear warmers that are attached to the fasteners of the riding hats. If there is no covered riding hall available when it rains or if a ride is planned, a rain cover protects the hat from dirt and the head from rainwater entering through the ventilation holes.
Visibility
When the days get shorter, many riders are faced with the problem that being in the stable usually takes place in the dark. When riding in traffic, visibility to other road users is an absolute priority.
With suitable reflective articles, riders, horses and dogs can be seen even in the dark. Reflective hat straps are ideal for riding hats. Lamps, which are attached to the riding hat by means of a clip or elastic band, offer the advantage of not only being seen better, but also of being seen better during stable work or on rides in poor light conditions.
