What kind of clothing is suitable for vaulting?
Vaulters need special clothing to be able to perform the acrobatic exercises on the horse correctly and without restrictions. It should be elastic, tight-fitting and breathable. While the vaulters' outfit at a competition tends to consist of an "unitard" - i.e. a full-body vaulting suit - there are several outfit components for training:
These include:
- Vaulting shirts (long-sleeved or short-sleeved)
- Vaulting leggings
- Training jacket
- Vaulting shoes
If you are vaulting for the first time, you can temporarily use conventional sports leggings, a tight-fitting functional shirt and non-slip gymnastic slippers from gymnastics class. In the long run, however, you should invest in special vaulting gear. Here, vaulting slippers in particular make a big difference to conventional gymnastics slippers, as the profile of the sole is designed precisely for vaulting on the horse's back and offers optimum grip.
Decorative accessories such as jewellery, watches or scarves as well as excessively loose clothing should be avoided for safety reasons. Long hair should also be tied back in a plait.
What should you look for in vaulting clothing?
Vaulting is a sport that requires a high degree of flexibility and sensitivity. The vaulting outfit should therefore be elastic so as not to impair the movements on the horse. You should also make sure that the vaulting clothing is tight-fitting - on the one hand, so that the clothing does not get caught, e.g. on the vaulting surcingle, and on the other hand, so that the coaches or judges can judge the execution of the exercises correctly. The material should be easy-care, breathable and quick-drying to meet the requirements of the sport. Since vaulting is predominantly a team sport and you work in close constellation with your training partners on the horse, it also increases your own comfort if the sweat is discreetly wicked away and no unpleasant odours arise. Especially at competitions, the outfits of all team members are harmoniously coordinated. If you are looking for suitable team clothing for your club for training, Kramer Equestrian is the right place for you. We offer our vaulting outerwear and vaulting trousers for adults as well as for children and teenagers.
In addition, vaulting shirts, vaulting leggings and training jackets should be suitable for the weather. In autumn and winter, our thermal clothing is ideal to avoid getting a chill in the colder ambient temperatures.
Which vaulting clothing is suitable for children?
Your child really wants to vault and the first trial lesson is coming up? Children often try out several disciplines until they have found the right sport for them. As a parent, you may therefore be hesitant to buy all the equipment at first.
For the child's first vaulting lesson, you can fall back on the sportswear from gymnastics lessons. However, you should make sure that the shirt and leggings fit tightly and that the gymnastic slippers have a non-slip sole so that your child can move around on the horse during training and does not get his or her clothes caught on the vaulting surcingle.
If your child sticks with vaulting, it is a good idea to invest in special vaulting clothing as this is designed for the demands of the sport. For example, vaulting shoes are often equipped with a longitudinal groove profile to guarantee grip on the horse's back. This is not the case with conventional gymnastic shoes for children's gymnastics, for example.
