What should you look for in a vaulting roller?
To prevent the vaulting surcingle from slipping, it is buckled tightly. Therefore, it is all the more important to have an optimal fit as well as spinal freedom and sufficient padding with a vaulting foam, which is placed between the vaulting surcingle and the vaulting pad. This minimises pressure peaks in the surcingle and reduces the strain on the horse's back. The girth should be adjustable and also well padded to avoid pressure and chafing points. When buying a vaulting surcingle, you should also pay attention to the metal rings in order to attach the necessary equipment such as side reins or other auxiliary reins.
In order to provide the vaulters with safety and support during the exercises, great importance should be attached to the orkmanship and stability of the hand grips and leg straps in particular. The hand grips have different shapes depending on the surcingle model, which are designed for certain exercises, performance levels or the vaulters' own preferences. A surcingle made of high-quality real leather is still the optimum for vaulting. Real leather is very durable and robust when well cared for. In addition, the natural material is not only comfortable for the horse to wear, but it also feels good in the hand and provides a good grip for the vaulters.

Why is a special vaulting surcingle used for vaulting?
In order to perform the acrobatic exercises on the horse's back, vaulters need holding and gripping possibilities, which are provided by the hand grips and leg straps of a vaulting surcingle. In addition, pressure peaks caused by performing the exercises on the surcingle are also alleviated by the padding, so that the horse's back is protected. For seat schooling on the lunge or therapeutic riding, simpler lunge rollers with a handle are also suitable. Especially as a beginner rider and in riding therapy, it is very valuable to be able to feel the horse's movements directly, which is why vaulting surcingles are often used. The handles offer the possibility to hold on, give confidence and security.
If you are unsure about buying a vaulting surcingle, you should consider what purpose the surcingle should serve. In general, the more demanding the gymnastic exercises on the horse, the more specifically the vaulting surcingle should be designed.
