What size saddle pad do I need for a pony?
Saddle pads are as decorative as they are useful. Nevertheless, you should first and foremost make sure that the saddle pad is the right size for your pony. A saddle pad that is too large may crease awkwardly, causing friction and pressure points, or the pony's flank may graze against the edge of the pad. You can recognise a perfectly fitting saddle pad by the fact that it lies smoothly under the saddle and is not distorted even after putting on the girth.
Saddle pads are available in different sizes, roughly divided into DR (dressage for warmbloods), GP (general purpose for warmbloods), P (pony) and SH (Shetland ponies). For a pony saddle with a seat area of 15 to 16 inches, we recommend a saddle pad in size Pony. However, the actual sizes vary from style to style. Before choosing a saddle pad, measure the length of your pony saddle. Add 6cm to this measurement. Now you can compare your result with the specifications of the pony saddle pads you can buy in our shop.
You can find more information about matching saddle pads and how to care for them in our guide to saddle pads and saddlecloths.
