Which horse rugs are suitable for ponies?
Ponies generally develop a dense coat that reliably protects them from penetrating moisture and cold in winter, especially from a snowstorm. First and foremost, therefore, a wicking rug is necessary and should be ready in every pony's tack box; for example, a wicking rug for ponies from Felix Bühler.
If you clip your pony extensively in winter or don't want a lot of coat to develop, you can also use a turnout rug. Depending on the husbandry conditions and weather, age and state of health of the pony, an adequate filling is necessary. Turnout rugs for ponies are waterproof and windproof and offer protection from heavy rain showers. In our range of pony rugs we offer turn out rugs from THERMO MASTER, Felix Bühler, Bucas or HORSEWARE.
Fly rugs offer your pony relief during the high insect periods in summer. Our online shop offers a selection of THERMO MASTER, Felix Bühler and Bucas pony fly rugs.
What size should a foal rug be?
Take measure: It is all the more important to measure correctly. The rug size is given in feet and describes the length of the foal. Use a soft tape measure and measure horizontally from the center of the chest to the end of the rump to find the right size for the foal rug.
At Kramer Equestrian you can buy THERMO MASTER foal rugs from 2ft 6in upwards.
Which horse rugs are suitable for foals?
Foals are born without any immunity defenses. They first have to strengthen their immune system, which is why they are dependent on their mother's nutrient-rich colostrum from the first hours of their life. This makes them more vulnerable to dangerous infections, especially in cold, wet weather. If there is no warm shelter, a wind and waterproof turnout rug for foals is recommended.
In our online shop you can buy lightweight foal rugs without filling. They are waterproof and can be adjusted in many places so that they can grow with the foal. Depending on the weather and temperature, we also offer foal rugs with 50g to 200g filling.
For weak foals or cold, draughty conditions in the stable, a stable rug for foals is recommended. These are wind-resistant and provide extra warmth for the little body.
When buying a foal rug, make sure that it fits snugly and that there are no surcingles hanging around that the foal's long legs might get caught in. Breathable materials are also important to prevent the foal from sweating and missing out on the protective effect of the rug. Multiple adjustment options are advantageous for a foal rug so that it grows sufficiently with the foal and can be adapted to the rapidly changing physique.
