Which lunge whip is easy to use?

A lunge whip is an important aid in groundwork and lungeing. It drives the horse from the back to the front and encourages it to be more engaged in the hindquarters. In order to be able to touch the horse, the whip including the lash should reach a length of 4-5 metres.
Due to the length and the forces caused by the swing of the whip, the whip must be balanced in the hand. Neither the tip nor the handle must be too heavy. For a comfortable feeling in the hand, we have lunge whips and touchier whips with gel handles, coated and rubberised handles to choose from in our online shop.
The whip itself needs a length between 180 and 250cm, the lash should be similar in length. Telescopic whips are recommended for easier handling, as some of them are infinitely adjustable and can be adapted to personal needs.
If the lash breaks or snaps, this is no problem at all. Our range of lunge whips is complemented by leather or silicone lashes.

Which lunge whip is particularly light?

Lunge whips are available in different designs and material compositions, which determine the weight. Whips made of carbon are extremely stable and flexible, but they also weigh more than other whips. This can be strenuous in the long run and tire the forearm.
Whips made of fibreglass, on the other hand, are extremely light and therefore much easier to handle. But caution is advised with them: If the horse steps on them, fibreglass whips can break quickly and splinter dangerously. So don't leave your fibreglass whip lying around carelessly. In our range you will find both carbon and ultra-light fibreglass whips in the variants telescopic, lunge and touchier whips.

What should be the maximum weight of a lunge whip?

Lunge whips have to be able to do a lot: They should be light, but balanced; they should be bendable and flexible, but still stable. Combining all these characteristics can therefore be difficult and there is no such thing as the ideal lunge whip. Ultimately, it should fit well in the hand and have a non-slip grip. At the same time, it should not be too heavy so that the forearm tires after a few minutes or the hand cramps. The maximum weight of a lungeing whip must be tested by each lunger.
At Kramer Equestrian you can buy lunge whips made of different materials and with different weights - so there is something for every taste. For those who like it particularly light, we recommend fibreglass whips or whips made of a mixture of materials.
