What should you look out for when it comes to trekking clothing?
Horse trekkers don't know bad weather, only bad clothing. Trekking clothing should therefore be suitable for all weathers. With the so-called layering system, you are flexible enough in changing weather conditions to be optimally dressed in any weather. While the first layer serves to regulate moisture with underwear and socks reliably wicking sweat away from the body, the last layer protects the trekker from external influences such as wind, rain or cold. The clothing varies from a light riding gilet to a warming winter jacket and a generous raincoat.
Since the possibilities for luggage on a horse are limited, you should make sure that the clothing does not take up too much space in the saddlebags and is light in weight.
Multi-functional garments, such as riding jackets with detachable sleeves, are among the favourite items in a horse trekkers wardrobe.
It is also important that horse trekking clothes are safe and comfortable. This applies to a back protector just as much as to riding boots. In any case, the potential savings in luggage should never be at the expense of rider & horse safety. Riding hat, riding gloves and sturdy boots, for example, should be a must. A body protector or back protector are also a useful addition to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall.
