What are the advantages of a riding gilet over a riding jacket?

Riding gilets are the perfect garment when a fully equipped riding jacket is too warm. Or when a riding jacket would restrict movement too much when riding, mucking out or otherwise working with the horse. Especially in the transitional season, a riding gilet is a practical two-layer look. It specifically protects the torso from wind and cold, but at the same time provides sufficient ventilation via the free arms.
Practical pockets round off the advantages of a riding gilet, in which treats, keys or the mobile phone can be safely stowed with zips.
At Kramer Equestrian you will find lightweight gilets that look great in combination with a long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirt in the summer. For winter, you can buy thickly padded quilted riding gilets under which you can put on a cosy turtleneck jumper.

How should a riding gilet fit?

A good riding gilet should comfortably surround the upper part of the body without constricting it. This is not only for stylish reasons, but is also a high safety factor. Both outerwear and breeches should fit tightly enough so that the rider does not get caught somewhere and dangerous accidents occur.
Many riding gilets have the advantage that they are cut longer at the back than at the front. This prevents the gilet from riding up over the jump, for example, and exposing the back.
The stretch inserts on the sides of our riding gilets are advantageous for an upright riding position and ensure an optimal fit. For an even better fit of the riding gilet, a 2-way front zip is suitable. This can be opened at the bottom when sitting to avoid possible tightening of the hem.

Which riding gilet is suitable in summer?

Although a riding gilet is the perfect riding accessory for all seasons, there are distinct differences between a riding gilet for summer and a riding gilet for winter. For cooler days in summer or spring, non-quilted riding gilets are the perfect stable companions. Many riders like to combine their riding gilet with a long-sleeved shirt, which guarantees sufficient warmth with maximum breathability. On rainy days, light riding gilets can also be worn as a mid-layer under a riding jacket.
Stretch gilets that are anatomically designed and cut close to the body are particularly popular. Stretch inserts at the sides and elastic inserts at the back also ensure a perfect fit and optimum freedom of movement.

Which riding gilet is suitable in winter?

In winter, thickly padded riding gilets are the garment of choice for the stable. They are usually lined with a fluffy fleece or imitation down, which provides a high level of insulation. The pre-formed chamber construction of the quilted winter riding gilets prevents the lining from shifting and creating unpleasant cold spots. With consistently effective warmth, nothing stands in the way of a winter ride with the horse. A soft knitted or turtleneck pullover is worn under the riding gilet for the perfect two-layer look. The outfit can be completed with warm hats, headbands or scarves.
