How do the various styles of breeches differ?

Which sizes of breeches are available?

Breeches can be bought in regular sizes and in long and short sizes. The difference between a tall or short size and a regular size is between four and five centimetres. Regular size breeches go from 26/32 (4R) to 44/32 (28R) while tall sizes go from 28/34 (8L) to 34/34 (18L) and short sizes (petite) from 27/30 (6S) to 36/30 (20S). br> To find the right breeches size for you, measure your waist, hips and side length. What kind of seat is available for breeches?

The seat in breeches consists of a reinforcement of different fabrics that give the rider increased support in the saddle. It protects the fabric in the buttocks area so that the breeches do not wear out too quickly. The seat has different styles or textures depending on the style of breeches. Nowadays, knee patch or full seat breeches and jodhpurs mainly use synthetic leather, which is easy to care for, breathable and very comfortable to wear. The seat of grip breeches is covered with silicone prints, which is particularly beneficial for beginners who still have an unsteady seat. In the best case, the seat is also flexible to adapt to movements and thus avoid creases.
In full seat breeches and riding leggings worn with boots, the seat extends from the buttocks to the middle of the lower leg. In the case of jodhpurs, the seat extends to the bottom of the leg, as riding boots are not worn with this model of breeches. In knee patch breeches, the seat is limited to the inside of the knee.

Which breeches seat adhers best?

The seat in breeches is designed to help the rider maintain contact with the saddle. The sliding of the knees and the springing of the ankles must not be disturbed by too much adhesion. Also, an unsteady rider's seat must not be provoked by too little adhesion. The strongest grip is provided by silicone grip, which is printed in patterns or motifs on the fabric of the breeches or riding leggings. Grip breeches can help riders with an unsteady riding position to achieve a secure sitting feeling.
A softer grip is offered by breeches with synthetic leather seat, which allows sufficient room for movement and thus any seat position.
The rider has the least grip with breeches without a seat. In most cases, only the outer fabric is reinforced with an additional layer of fabric. This allows free gliding and the rider has little or no adhesion in the saddle. This can have a detrimental effect on the suppleness of the rider's seat, as the rider tends to cramp up in the slipping areas. Which breeches are suitable for beginners?

Beginners should pay attention to the seat and style when buying a suitable pair of breeches. Full seat breeches are most suitable for beginners and inexperienced riders, as they provide sufficient support in the saddle and compensate for an unsteady rider's seat. For a steady riding leg, breeches are recommended as the leather of the long riding boots provide extra grip on the horse. For more freedom of movement of the legs, you can choose jodhpurs that are worn with a riding boot or jodhpur boot. What type of breeches are suitable for winter?

If you need to be particularly warm when riding, you can opt for thermal overtrousers, which are usually pulled over the breeches. They provide a good hold in the saddle thanks to their seat and a high level of thermal insulation thanks to their puffy polyester filling.
Combine your winter breeches with a thickly padded winter riding jacket or a long riding coat to protect you from cold wind. For the underneath, the tried and tested layering system is recommended, consisting of close-fitting functional underwear and individual layers of shirts, thick jumpers or practical sweat or fleece jackets. Breeches in long sizes are suitable for female riders with long legs. These are specially designed for tall women. Long breeches are available in sizes 8L to 18L. Instead of an R for "regular", the size is followed by an L for "long".
