WHICH WINTER RIDING BOOTS REALLY KEEP YOU WARM?

For a pair of winter riding boots to really keep you warm, a layer of air should be built up in the boot to insulate the body heat. A tight-fitting boot prevents the formation of an airy insulating layer. The boot should therefore leave enough space inside so that such a heat-insulating layer of air can be built up by thick woollen socks.
Furthermore, a sufficiently thick sole helps the feet to feel warmer. A thick sole increases the distance to the cold ground and thus prevents the feet from cooling down prematurely. Last but not least, the boot should be waterproof and keep moisture from penetrating. Damp feet cool down quicker.
Bear in mind that you may prefer long winter riding boots or winter Jodphur boots for riding, as winter yard boots are usually too chunky for the stirrup and can be a hindrance to fine aids.
At Kramer Equestrian you will find a wide selection of lined winter Jodphur boots, which will keep your feet dry and warm through the day at the yard thanks to the cosy inner lining. You will also find winter Jodphur boots with a narrower cut so that your feet fit into the stirrup. These boots are also lined and keep your feet nice and warm while riding. Our STEEDS winter boots also have a thick sole so that your feet are far enough away from the ground and are not exposed to the direct cold of the ground, which also provides more warmth.

WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN BUYING WINTER RIDING BOOTS?

When buying your winter riding boots and winter Jodphur boots, you should pay attention to the following things:

  • Buy winter riding boots 1-2 sizes larger. Thick woollen socks should have enough room in the boots to provide a warm insulating layer.
  • A wide range of size adjustment options, such as long winter riding boots with a full-length lace-up fastening or Velcro adjustment for individual fitting. Rubber inserts on the sides or a lace-up fastening at the front make it easy to put on and take off the winter riding boots.
  • Reflective piping and reflective strips for more visibility in the dark season. Alternatively, you can use long winter riding boots reflective items for more visibility in road traffic.
