Which men's riding jacket keeps you warmest in winter?
A thickly padded men's riding jacket is a must-have for men's riding clothing in winter. Fluffy padding combined with a soft lining provides good warmth. Quilted jackets and riding jackets with imitation down are particularly worth mentioning here. The down imitation has almost as high a thermal performance as the original, but is more gentle on the animal. As Kramer Equestrian puts animal welfare first, we do not use real down and only use imitation down in our riding jackets and riding gilets.
But as much as we love down parkas for their cosy feel, they can restrict arm freedom when riding and working in the stable. That's why we recommend a layering approach for men in the stable!
You can create the bottom layer with a men's long-sleeved shirt, which is comfortable, wicks away moisture and insulates. For the top layer, you can choose a fleece jacket or a lightweight combination riding jacket. These are thinner than a thick winter riding jacket, but are windproof. And if you wear a winter riding jacket or fleece-lined rain jacket as your outermost layer, you'll be perfectly equipped for winter. Several layers help you to adapt ideally to the outside temperatures and activities of the moment.
Kramer Equestrian has a wide range of men's riding jackets that will help you stay functional all year round. We have summarised all the advantages of the layering principle in our guide to riding outerwear.
What riding clothes for men do you need?
Alongside the obligatory breeches, a riding jacket is part of the standard equipment for riders. Whether on the yard with your horse or simply mucking out - a functional men's riding jacket is essential for riders. The varied weather conditions place different demands on men's riding clothing. In midsummer, a short-sleeved polo shirt or T-shirt is usually sufficient during the day. When it gets a little cooler in the evening, a light fleece jacket, combination riding jacket or a thin men's riding gilet in combination with a functional long-sleeved shirt will keep you warm in summer. In winter, on the other hand, men should opt for thickly padded riding jackets with a soft lining for adequate warmth. And matching thermal breeches and short winter riding boots or long winter riding boots keep legs and feet warm. A men's riding outfit is completed with warm knee socks, hats and riding gloves.
In the often rainy and stormy transitional period, which is often accompanied by mild temperatures, lightweight but also wind- and waterproof rain jackets are in demand. Softshell riding jackets are also very popular among riders, especially in spring and autumn, as their functional material makes them particularly breathable and windproof. They can also withstand light rain showers as they are water-repellent. You can also wear lightweight hybrid breeches or riding tights for men. Riders who enjoy taking their horse out trekking at any time of year can enjoy their hobby, no matter the weather.
