Hay and hard feed can no longer provide the horse with sufficient minerals due to the washing out of the land, which is why the deficiency should be compensated for by vitamin supplements.

What should I look for in horse feed?
Besides a perfect quality of the horse feed, which is neither mouldy nor infested with mites, you should pay attention to the expiry date. Correct storage is necessary to maintain good quality feed. It is essential that both forage and mash or hard feed are stored correctly so that they remain free from bacterial contamination and mould. The choice of the appropriate horse feed is very individual for each animal. Horses in general have a very delicate digestive system that can quickly get out of hand, which is why horses can develop metabolic disorders if fed incorrectly. Horses with an already pre-loaded metabolism should be fed a grain-free diet to avoid putting undue stress on their digestion.
