Product Description

Complementary feed for horses. Grain and molasses-free as well as low-starch pellets based on meadow green meal. Rich in valuable vitamins and high-quality linseed for an improved skin level, important trace elements such as zinc for an intact immune system as well as selected herbs such as nettle and field horsetail herb to promote the body's natural detoxification function. Especially in the transitional seasons, horses often fall ill with mallenders/sallenders. The reason for this is that in spring or autumn, due to the sometimes strong temperature changes, a damp and warm environment can form in the pastern, which provides the ideal breeding ground for bacteria, fungi and mites, which feed on the lymphs and can thus damage the lymphatic system. In addition, the immune system and metabolism are already working at full capacity due to the temperatures and the change of coat, and often there is a zinc deficiency due to the increased zinc requirement. If a painful pastern eczema develops due to the settlement of the parasites, this is called mud fever. Scaly patches on the back of the hock, which can also become bloody and crusty, is called mallenders/sallenders. The cause and treatment of the two diseases are similar and often mallenders/sallenders and mud fever merge into each other. Once the cause of the disease has been identified and eliminated, treatment should not only be carried out externally with care products, but the organism should also be supported internally with supplementary feed. Here it is still important to know that too much sugar, starch and protein can promote the inflammatory process in the body and therefore, if necessary, should be changed to a grain-free and sugar-reduced diet for a short time. Instead, the main feed should be rich in raw fibre. Zinc and manganese should not be missing from the diet. They are strongly involved in the detoxification process of the horse and help to properly remove harmful metabolic products as well as to strengthen the protective mechanisms of the skin. We also recommend Original Landmühle Mud Fever Premium as a preventive feed supplement for horses that tend to develop mallenders/sallenders or mud fever in the transitional seasons due to deficiencies or a poor immune system.
