Product Description

Complementary feed for horses. Grain and molasses-free, reduced-sugar pellets for feeding in myopathy or poor muscle metabolism. Particularly rich in vitamin E to prevent cell oxidation. Important trace elements such as selenium and soya serve as natural sources of lysine to support healthy muscle development. PSSM (=Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy), also called MIM (=Muscle Integrity Myopathy), can be present in various forms (we speak of types here) and can have various causes, such as poor genetic make-up. In summary, it is a storage disease of the horse's muscles, which negatively affects the muscle metabolism or, more precisely, the sugar metabolism in the muscle and thus makes it difficult to build up muscle. The horse stores sugar molecules (polysaccharides) in the muscle cells and cannot break them down. Symptoms of the disease such as stiff gait, muscle cramps or trembling, heavy sweating at low load or generally poor muscle development with good training can be very varied and occur inconsistently. In most cases, however, there is at least a fundamental reluctance to move and a resulting drop in performance. A final diagnosis can only be made by the attending veterinarian by means of a necessary test. In general, it is important to feed the horse a diet low in sugar and starch in order to reduce the storage of sugar molecules. Ideally, concentrates and roughage should be closely scrutinised. The increased protein requirement for building up and maintaining the muscles must be covered. Vegetable oils are often used to support this. An optimal supply of vitamins or minerals is also crucial. Here, Original Landmühle Premium PSSM can support your horse in the best possible way. In any case, it is recommended to coordinate the feeding in close consultation with the treating veterinarian and to carry out regular blood tests to determine the required mineral needs.
