Product Description

Complementary feed for horses.

Grain- and molasses-free, starch- and sugar-reduced pellets with linseed expeller for improved taste. Rich in essential trace elements, minerals, amino acids and vitamins. Contains valuable ingredients such as cinnamon bark, which can help to boost metabolism and can have a slight anti-inflammatory effect, and spirulina, which can have a positive effect on the immune system, hoof quality and coat condition. This makes the feed particularly suitable for supplementary feeding in the case of metabolic disorders such as PPID or laminitis.

PPID is now one of the most common metabolic diseases and is a malfunction of the hormonal system in which the pituitary gland can no longer function properly. It is responsible for the release of many hormones, which in turn fulfil important metabolic tasks. In PPID, a lack of dopamine ultimately leads to an overproduction of cortisol, which results in symptoms such as long/curly coats (even in the summer months), difficulty shedding, painful laminitis with hoof abscesses, insulin resistance and many other non-specific symptoms such as increased sweating, increased thirst, tiredness, muscle loss, fat deposits and emaciation. Horses suffering from PPID are also often much more susceptible to infectious diseases and have problems with wound healing. Unfortunately, the disease is incurable, but can now be treated well so that the animal's quality of life is maintained. Of course, you can only get a diagnosis and medication from a vet!

However, there are also a few points to bear in mind when it comes to feed management: Grazing should be reduced or attention should be paid to the fructan content of the meadow so that the disturbed sugar metabolism is not put under additional strain. The same applies to the quality of the roughage, whereby a hay analysis can certainly be useful. In general, you should focus on sugar-free or sugar-reduced feed, also with regard to treats etc. Due to the increased need for vitamins and minerals, the horse should be supported daily with a suitable vitamin and mineral supplement such as Original Landmühle ECS Premium. This also reduces the risk of infection. When drawing up a feed plan for concentrated feed, the nutritional status of the horse must be taken into account individually, as not every horse suffering from Cushing's disease is underweight. The horse's dental condition and much more must also be taken into account. In any case, a low-starch and therefore grain-free concentrated feed such as desugared beet pulp is recommended to assist metabolism.

Feeding advice: Large horses 60-80g daily.
