Which horse care products do I need?

Horse care means much more than keeping the horse nice and clean. Horse care also includes keeping a watchful eye on skin and hoof health to prevent skin irritations or thrush. To ensure that the horse is well cared for, you need a few care products that should be available in every grooming box and are a useful addition to your grooming equipment:

In addition to your horse, your riding equipment, such as bridles or saddles, and your riding clothes also need good and regular care. In our online shop you will find care products for leather care, textile care and boot & shoe care.

Which horse brush is suitable for which purpose?

After you have removed the coarse dirt from the horse with a curry comb, you can use brushes and body brushes to remove the fine dust from the horse. They should be part of every grooming kit and are mainly used on different parts of the horse's body. Body brushes are soft brushes with dense bristles. They are available with either natural or synthetic bristles. Since this horse brush is used very often on the horse, we recommend going for body brushes with natural bristles. These pick up more dust and hold it better. Long bristles are more suitable for picking up coarse dirt that the curry comb has previously loosened; short bristles are more suitable for final cleaning to bring the horse to a high shine.
There are also hard bristled body brushes that are ideal for a little massage session on the horse. Keep in mind that not every horse reacts favourably to hard bristles. Here you should check the horse's individual sensitivity.
Dandy brushes are suitable for mane and tail care. They are often called mane and tail brushes. Dandy brushes have long, thick and hard bristles and are narrower in shape than a body brush. This makes them easy to hold. Dandy brushes can also be used to clean hooves. We have special hoof brushes in our range for cleaning hooves. These are available either with or without a handle, which ensures easier handling.

What belongs in my horse's grooming box?

A fully equipped grooming box is part of every horse's basic equipment. They are not only tools to keep your horse as clean as possible. They also help you with the horse's skin hygiene to avoid skin irritations. Every horse's grooming box should include:

You can read a detailed list of what belongs in a horse's grooming box and what you can use which tools for in our horse care guide.
A first aid kit is also part of a fully equipped grooming kit, which includes various skin creams, wound care sprays, bandages and dressings and much more. You can find a complete list for a stable first aid kit in our guide. At Kramer Equestrian, we provide you with everything you need for horse care to keep your horse clean and healthy. Even the youngest riders will find their own grooming kit:

What is the best way to clean horse brushes?

Skin diseases and skin irritations can develop due to the horse's grooming equipment. To prevent fungal diseases, for example, from spreading to other horses, it is important that each horse has its own grooming kit. The cleanliness of the horse brushes also plays an important role in horse care:
A horse brush that is dirty with horse hair and dust will pick up less dirt from the horse's body. Also, if you do not clean the horse brush in the long run, it can become an increased risk for skin irritations. Therefore, you should tap out the brushes you use immediately after grooming or remove coarse dirt with a curry comb. You can also brush the horse brushes against each other. It can also be helpful to give them a deep cleaning at regular intervals. To do this, wash the brushes under a lukewarm stream of water until the water runs clear from the bristles. If you like it especially clean, you can also spray the brushes with disinfectant spray, which you can also find in our shop.
