How does the training headcollar work?
In contrast to the usual headcollars, training headcollars are equipped with additional rings. There are different designs, which is why training headcollars can be used in many different ways. Either training headcollars have additional rings on the sides. Other styles of training headcollars have additional rings on the noseband, similar to a cavesson. These styles also have a browband for better grip. Due to the positions of the rings, training headcollars mainly exert pressure on the bridge of the nose via the noseband. This makes communication easier and more refined.
Due to the different positions of the rings, training headcollars can be used for loading, for lead training, for working with the double lunge or also as bitless bridles.
Remember that a training headcollar is not intended to be used in the stable, for turnout or for tethering. It has no predetermined breaking points and can maximise the risk of snagging due to the protruding rings.
How does the training headcollar fit correctly?
In order for the training headcollar to achieve its full effectiveness, it must fit optimally, i.e. close to the horse's head. At the same time, it must not be too loose and protrude, otherwise the signals will not reach the horse correctly. The same rules of adjustment apply to training headcollars as to normal headcollars. There should be at least one finger between the cheekbone and the noseband so that the straps or rings do not press against the bone. There should also be room for a fist under the throat latch so that the horse's swallowing movement is not strangulated. However, a training headcollar should be fitted so tightly that it does not slip, even when pulled sideways. This could obstruct the horse's field of vision if, for example, the cheek straps slip into the eye.
How does a training headcollar help?
Training headcollars can be used to refine the communication between horse and human during ground work; making training easier. Due to the side rings, traction is exerted on the noseband, which in turn exerts more pressure on the bridge of the nose. This makes it particularly suitable for placing in ground work or lungeing.
