What is the function of the browband?

A browband has both visual and very important functional properties. It prevents the headpiece of the bridle from sliding backwards, where it could press on the sensitive atlas vertebra. This is especially the case when the bit is buckled very loosely. When chewing, the bit rings lift the cheek pieces and thus the headpiece. A browband of the correct length holds the headpiece in place.
At the same time, the browband must not be too short, otherwise it will pull the bridle to the auricles and cause headaches for the horse.
It therefore needs the correct length, which you determine as follows:

• Remove the browband from one side of the bridle.
• Put the bridle onto the horse.
• Place the browband loosely around the horse's forehead.
• If it reaches to the other side of the bridle as if it had not been removed, it is the correct length.
li>If you have to pull on the browband to get it to the other side of the bridle, it is too short.
• If in doubt, choose a longer browband.

What types of browband are there?

Browbands of all types serve the same purpose, namely to prevent the bridle from slipping. Therefore, they should all fit correctly. Browbands differ not only in their ornamentation, but sometimes also in their shape. There are curved and straight browbands or browbands with elaborate decorations.
Some browband designs also differ in the way they are attached. Generally, the sewn leather loops are threaded through the headpiece. For easier and faster handling, we also have browbands with snap closures, such as our browbands from FENGUR.

Which browband is suitable for an Icelandic horse?

Any browband is suitable for Icelandic horses, as long as it fits correctly.
